The Principles and Key Components of DLP Technology and LCD Technology
DLP is the abbreviation of "Digital Light Processing", which is digital light processing. In other words, this technology must first process the image signal digitally, and then project the light. It is based on the digital micromirror device DMD (Digital Micromirror Device) developed by TI (Texas Instruments) to complete the technology of visual digital information display. DLP projection technology uses digital micromirror wafer (DMD) as the main key processing element to realize the digital optical processing process.
The DMD chip is the core of the DLP projector. The DMD chip integrates millions of micromirrors at a scale of less than 1 inch. Currently, TI (Texas Instruments) can produce it worldwide.
The projection principle of monochrome DLP laser projector:
The light source of the monochrome DLP laser projector is blue laser. The blue laser can form pure yellow light and pure green light after passing through different sectors of the phosphor wheel. Part of the blue light is reflected through the transparent sector of the fluorescent wheel and hits the filter wheel together with the yellow light and green light. The main function of the DLP color wheel
is to decompose polychromatic light into monochromatic light. Yellow light is polychromatic light, which is essentially composed of red light and green light. After passing through the color wheel, yellow light is decomposed into red light and green light. At this point, the three primary colors red-green-blue required for projection are formed. These lights and yellow light hit the DMD chip through the light guide column. After the reflection of the DMD chip, these lights form the image required for projection and are projected through the lens.
The 3LCD method is to decompose the light emitted by the light source into three colors of R (red), G (green), and B (blue) (the three primary colors of light), and make them pass through their LCD panels (HTPS method) to give shape and action. Each HTPS is composed of many pixels. For example, an HTPS with a resolution of 1024 * 768 is composed of 1024 * 768 pixels to correspond to the pixels of the projected image. The arrangement of liquid crystal molecules is changed by voltage to realize the transition of different gray levels of R-G-B from all black to all white.
The biggest difference between the two technologies is that the core of the DLP projection technology is the DMD chip, and the core of the 3LCD projection technology is the liquid crystal panel.
